At the end of June 1989, my husband, The Right Reverend Barry Valentine, and I arrived here at the invitation and request of Bishop Ron Shepherd. Initially Barry was asked to look after the parish because the incumbent was leaving to join a monastery in Boston.
After about three months, the parish asked us to stay, so Barry became the incumbent until his retirement in 1995. By then we had bought a house up on Mount Belcher and I had a full time job at Lady Minto, doing the payroll for three different unions and the ‘exempt’ office management team. When Barry retired as rector, he was organist and choir master for some years until eventually he retired for about the third or fourth time.
Barry died in 2009. His life was celebrated at All Saints, and with permission, his ashes were scattered on the property.
