The Anglican Parish of Salt Spring Island doesn’t ‘go it alone’. We see ourselves as partners in God's mission in the world, along with all people of faith. More formally, though, we are part of a larger family:
We are a member parish of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia, those Anglican churches found on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and Kingcome Inlet on the mainland, is informally known as 'the diocese of the islands and inlets’. In 2015, the diocese adopted a Vision of Renewed Hearts, Renewed Spirits, Renewed People. Since then, we have embarked on a journey to discern how God will guide us towards seeing our vision come to life in our parishes, communities and regions. Learn more about our Diocesan Vision
As a diocese, we are part of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon - one of four Ecclesiastical Provinces in the Anglican Church of Canada, the other three being the Ecclesiastical Provinces of Rupert's Land, Ontario, and Canada.
We are also part of the Anglican Church of Canada and the worldwide Anglican Communion. The Anglican Church of Canada is also in a ‘full communion’ partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
The Synod of the Anglican Diocese of British Columbia is incorporated under The Synod Act (1889) of the legislature of the Province of BC.
The Synod consistes of the bishop, clergy, and others including lay and youth delegages elected by parishes according to the provisions of the consistution, canons and regulations; and normally meets at least once every two years upon the summons from the bishop.
The Vestry "... is the annual or special meeting of parishioners duly convened and constituted for the transaction of business with the canons on that behalf."
