I was a 'city girl' who had all her education in Vancouver. After graduating from UBC in counselling, I was hired by the Vancouver School Board. As anyone in the school system knows, Vancouver is now very multiracial; and moving from the "west side" to the "east side" was like trading entitled teens for thankful teens. There were extremely sad stories, but also tales of success based on determination and kindness.
I left the VSB in 2006, after 25 years of counselling. My move to Saltspring has given me the chance to heal, and live life at a slower pace. Spare time has included wonderful new friends, garage sales, decluttering, and embracing the learning curve of home ownership: specifically wells, septic tanks, blackberry bushes, and building projects. (Volunteering at Lady Minto Thrift shop is addictive and very rewarding, and not at all useful to decluttering).
Arriving again at All Saints has been like coming home. (I grew up at St. Mary's Kerrisdale: baptism, Sunday school, confirmation, marriage - the whole bit). I always tell people the Anglican Church gave me my roots, and the United Church gave me my wings!
