Update
There is very little to report this week on the hiring front, except to ensure you that we are moving steadily forward. We continue to work closely with Canon Jenny and are following her advice on process. Our annual general meeting will be held on February 16th after Church. On February 15th we will have an open meeting at the church to review the budget prior to the AGM (time TBA). Parish Council looked at the budget at their meeting last Sunday and will continue to work on it to make sure that it is both balanced and realistic. Looking forward we need to make decisions about the rectory and other renovation projects. We need serious discussion on future use of St Mary’s. With the construction of a new driveway, St Mark's moves one step closer to being put on the market. Lots of challenges and opportunities moving forward. As always please feel free to send questions or concerns. Until next week, Ruth |
Reaching Out with Compassion and Understanding
I like many was moved by the words and actions this week of the right Rev Mariann Budde, Episcopal Bishop of Washington DC - click here. This sparked in me a desire to not just pass on memes, but to actually do something concrete. It is incumbent upon us, as a Christian community, to reflect deeply on how we can extend our hands and hearts towards those who are marginalized in our society—refugees, immigrants, LGBTQ2S individuals, the homeless and any others who may be in need of our support. Christ championed love, acceptance, and compassion for all. How can we ensure that they feel the warmth and inclusivity of our community, especially now? Firstly, we must educate ourselves about the challenges faced by these individuals. Understanding their unique experiences and struggles allows us to approach them with empathy and tailor our support to meet their needs. For our LGBTQ2S siblings, it is crucial that we create safe spaces where they can express themselves without fear of judgment or exclusion. Listening to their stories, affirming their worth, and standing in solidarity with them can go a long way in making them feel valued and supported. We can advocate for systemic changes that address the root causes of marginalization. By doing so, we help to create a society that reflects the inclusive and loving principles we hold dear. Our mission is clear: to walk alongside those who are marginalized, showing them the same love and compassion that Christ has shown us. Through education, advocacy, and direct support, we can make a tangible difference in their lives and demonstrate the true spirit of our faith. I will be posting an idea board in the narthex for Sunday. Please feel free to post ideas. We are already engaged. What else can we do? In Hope Ruth |
